Certificate Program

The Graduate Certificate in Forensic Document Examination (FDE) was established in cooperation with the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners. This course of study supports apprenticeship or journeyman programs that prepare document examiners, trainees, and laboratory interns for certification.

Associated training or experience is required for students taking this course of study, whether for the Graduate Certificate only or as part of the M.S. option in Forensic Document Examination.  Admission to the Graduate Certificate requires prior approval from the lead FDE instructor and the Program Director.

Required courses for the FDE. Certificate
Four online courses, counting 3 credits each, as follows: 

FRNS 5023 Forensic Examination of Questioned Documents (fall course)
FRNS 5033 Forensic Handwriting Examination: Theory and Practice (spring course)
FRNS 5043 Technical Aspects of Forensic Document Examination (spring course)
FRNS 5053 Historical Aspects of Forensic Document Examination (fall course)

Only one course is offered each semester, with FRNS 5023 and FRNS 5033 typically offered in odd-numbered years and FRNS 5043 and FRNS 5053 offered in even numbers years. 

Students enrolled only in the certificate program who serve as employees of municipal, county, state, or federal government agencies within the U.S. qualify for partial tuition waivers.  Current proof of employment is required.
