Photo contest celebrates life in rural Oklahoma

2011 Rural Oklahoma Photo Contest WinnerIn an effort to celebrate life in rural America, the OSU Center for Rural Health is sponsoring a Rural Oklahoma Photo Contest as part of a celebration of the 2012 National Rural Health Day on Nov.15.

Photos that display rural scenes such as landscapes, buildings, community events, health fairs, neighbors or pleasures of rural life may qualify for submission. Submission deadline is Nov. 15. For more information, contact the Center for Rural Health.

The winning photo will be posted to the OSU Center for Rural Health Blog and the winning photographer will receive a basket of OSU Center for Health Sciences items.

Health Care Forum to discuss Insure Oklahoma and the Affordable Care Act

The Tulsa Metro Chamber will host a health care forum Wednesday, Oct. 24 at OSU-Tulsa in North Hall 150 from 8-9:30 a.m.

Nico Gomez, director of public information for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA), will provide insight into the upcoming changes surrounding health care in Oklahoma as the Affordable Care Act is implemented.

He will discuss the status of Insure Oklahoma and prospects for its future. Insure Oklahoma is administered by OHCA and is directed at increasing access to commercial insurance for low income workers, either through their employers’ plan or as individuals.

Tulsa Oktoberfest to affect OSU-CHS parking Oct. 18-21

Tulsa Oktoberfest will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. at the River West Festival Park. Traffic around OSU-CHS will be heavy beginning late on Oct. 18 and continuing throughout the festival.

The OSU-CHS Student Associate Advocates will be selling parking spots during the festival to raise funds for the organization.

Those visiting OSU-CHS during the festival are asked to schedule extra travel time to allow for the increase in traffic. Traffic down Jackson Avenue will also be restricted during the festival.

Oktoberfest runs 5-11 p.m. on Oct. 18, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Oct. 19, 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. Oct. 20 and 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Oct. 21.

OSU Women’s Health to participate in HallowMarine 2012

HallowMarine LogoOSU Women’s Health will scare up some important health information at HallowMarine 2012 at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks from Oct. 28-30.

Volunteers will be passing out candy and sharing information about OSU Women’s Health at the booth each night from 6:30 – 9 p.m.

HallowMarine is an indoor Halloween celebration, complete with costumes, carnival style games, trick-or-treating, mermaid and pirate dive shows and other fun activities.

Students, faculty and staff can volunteer to pass out candy at the booth by calling 918-561-8573 or 918-561-8390.

OSU-CHS collecting candy for Eugene Field Elementary trick-or-treating day

Ghosts and ghouls from Eugene Field Elementary will be having a haunting a good time at OSU Center for Health Sciences on Oct. 31 for the annual Halloween trick-or-treating field trip.

OSU-CHS is collecting candy to hand out to the students through Oct. 30. Students, faculty and staff can leave donations in boxes located by the elevators in the Barson Building and the Forensic and Biomedical Sciences Research Center.
