Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Course of Study

First Year

  • Skills training in palpatory diagnosis, applied anatomy and physiology, soft tissue, articulation, muscle energy and counterstrain
  • Emphasis on competency based testing, not just written exams

Second Year

  • Skills training in HV/LA, myofascial, cranial, postural balancing and review skills from the first year
  • OMM in visceral disease for Pulmonary, GI, CV, GU, OB/GYN, ENT, Pediatrics and Surgery
  • Ten most common Musculoskeletal presentations
  • Continued competency-based training

Third Year - One month clinical rotation

Three weeks at OSU Health Care Center

  • Review of basic OMM Techniques
  • Examine and treat outpatients under physician supervision
  • Emphasis on efficiency
  • Accept referrals from the community
  • Outpatient medical charting of OMM
  • Coding and billing for optimal reimbursement
  • Competency-based and written exam

One week at TRMC

  • Review OMM for visceral problems and complications found in the hospital setting
  • Review OMM techniques as they apply to the bedfast patient
  • Examine and treat patients (under supervision) emphasizing efficiency
  • Inpatient medical charting of OMM
  • Coding and billing for optimal reimbursement
  • Competency-based and written exam

Fourth Year

  • Elective Rotation
